 John William Waterhouse was born in a family of English painters in 1849, when his parents were in Rome, pursuing art. It wasn't until 1870 that John William Waterhouse was admitted to the Royal Academy.

Often considered a Pre-raphaelite painter, experts classify John William Waterhouse in the Neo-Classicism category. There are more than 200 paintings featuring classical mythology, historical and literary stories and subjects.
